How to Photograph Your Horse

This is a quick crash course on how to take photos of your horse to get the best results for your sculpture. Please read each section carefully.

Required Photos

(Great Examples)

These photos are required if you would like a custom sculpture. If these exact angles are not possible, like a horse that has passed away, please send the closest you have.

Once you have taken these required photos, if you have more photos of different angles, I encourage you to send me those too. Remember it's impossible to have too many photos!

For all photos please stand back about 20-30 feet from your horse and zoom in on your camera. This is to avoid the camera changing the proportions of your horse.

Left Side

Side photos should be taken directly from the side with the horse standing square. Please take photos outside during sunnies days, avoid taking pictures of them in the stall.

Right Side

Same instructions as the other side but notice the difference in this mare's coat color. The indirect light has really brought out her dapples. Photos with this lighting are encouraged.

Back

For these photos please make sure your horse is standing square and that it is taken directly from the back and not at an angle.

Front

Same instructions as the back. For these photos I need to see their chest so please keep your horse's head up.

Side of Face

For these photos please take them directly from the side with your horse's face neutral. Ear position doesn't matter. (NO HALTER OR BRIDLE)

Front of Face

For these photos please take them directly from the front with your horse's face neutral and pointed down. Ear position doesn't matter. (NO HALTER OR BRIDLE)

Markings Photos

(Great Examples)

These photos are only required if your horse has markings, patterns, or dilutions.

(In this example, this horse has leg markings and the dun dilution.)
